ABSTRACT

Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park is one of the most important habitats for the bird diversity in the
western part of Indonesia. Deforestation, which could cause the fragmentation of bird species habitat, might result in the change of bird species composition. Therefore, this research was performed to investigate the bird species compositions in the different types of landscape habitat. The research was done by observing the species which were found in the different landscape types using IPA (Indices Point of Abundance) method and the observation was conducted in two different locations with different ecosystem types. The first location named Sukaraja Atas represented the lowland forests and the other, Kubu Perahu Liwa represented the highland forests. The results showed that the different ecosystem types influenced the bird diversity. Sukaraja Atas consisted of land covering type or patch which was dominated by primary forest and bush. The patch of the primary forest was mainly inhabited by the species belonged to the family of Cuculidae and the patch of the bush was dominated by the family of Nectariniidae. Kubu Perahu Liwa possessed the patch which consisted of primary forest, secondary forests, and bush. The species of the family Pycnonotidae were found in the primary forest and secondary forest. Nectariniidae and Silvidae dominated species in bush patch of Kubu Perahu. The research location was dominated by cabai tunggir coklat (Dicaeum everetti) with the highest individu number.
